About

CUSTOM HOUSE

Custom House is an iconic historic building located at the Lower Levee on the Mississippi River, where St. Paul and the Twin Cities had their beginnings. The 740,000 square foot, 17-story structure (plus two levels below-grade) was constructed in phases in 1934, 1939, and 1961, and served as St. Pauls Main Post Office and Minnesotas principal federal office building for 79 years.

The history of the building, incredible views, and generous space for first-class amenities made luxury apartments a natural use. Assigned to the tower, the Residences at Custom House were positioned to enjoy the greatest views and have access to the 6th floor annex, the location for the incredible new rooftop terrace.

The perfect compliment to the Residences was the Hyatt Place Hotel (notably the first hotel to be built in St. Paul since the 1980's and the only one in Lowertown). The two share Custom House's historic lobby entrance, but are otherwise completely separate. (see diagram at the right).

Fun fact: over 10,000 tons of concrete and metal construction debris were removed to create a light well in the center of 72,000 SF floor plates on levels 2 through 6 for the hotel and to carve out a 12,000 SF sunken patio area on the 6th level for an outdoor pool and other apartment amenities.

Acorn Mini Storage, a brilliant addition to the project, provides convenient storage options for residents and the St. Paul Area.

Additional uses planned for the building include office and commercial space, as well as a ground floor restaurant on of Kellogg and Jackson.
